The cryptocurrency market, fortunately, or unfortunately, seems to have the power to set the minds of many to dream of becoming millionaires. Fortunes have been made by youngsters overnight like never seen before, well-accomplished investors who end up in the “Richest People In The Cryptocurrency” List by Forbs.
I have selected FIVE seriously EPIC crypto millionaires. Some stories have happy endings others not so much, to show that we may all be tempted to navigate the world of cryptos without much diligence, like a game of luck, in the name of becoming rich! But we should know cryptocurrency is serious business, and I hope this blog post inspires you to make the best of your owncrypto journey.
Charlie Shrem age 28 born on November 25th, 1989, an entrepreneur born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Syrian-Jewish descent.
“I was, like, 22 years old, I had half a million dollars sitting in the bank. I had no expenses. Life was great.”- Charlie Shrem
He is a co-owner of Erv, a gastropub well known in Manhattan one of the first places to start accepting bitcoin. Shrem founded the Bitcoin Foundation to promote the development and updates of BTC, co-founder of BitInstant which was shut down on January 2014. Shrem graduated from Brooklyn College in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance. Charlie is a convicted felon, turned himself in on March 30th, 2015 and was released in June 2016, for aiding and abetting the operation of an unlicensed money transmitting business called Silk Road, a BitInstant client and an illegal marketplace in the dark web, ordered to forfeit 950,000. Charlie overcame all of this and is living to tell his story to help others. If you would like to read the outcome of his entire crypto journey including his prison time you might want to check out his Medium account where he tells his entire story.
A beautiful and inspiring story, Go Charlie!
Ross Ulbricht age 34 born on March 17th, 1984 in Austin Texas has a bitter-end-millionaire story. Exchanges are pretty hard to track on the blockchain due to its anonymity nature, and inevitably a black market by the name Silk Road took advantage of that, with an owner that went by the name of Dread Pirate Roberts who made MILLIONS in bitcoins for as long as he could. Eventually, the FBI caught up to him, and Ross Ulbricht was found to be the owner of Silk Road, arrested in 2013 and sentenced to life leaving behind 150,000 Bitcoins at the hands of the FBI. Prior to all of this Ross had his life together, he grew up as a disciplined Boy Scout, graduated from the University of Texas in Dallas with a bachelors in physics. He also attended Pennsylvania State University and graduated in 2009 with a master´s degree in materials science and engineering.
Ulbricht’s reply on the “heroes” who sell drugs on Silk Road via Forbs:
“There are heroes among us here at Silk Road. Every day they risk their lives, fortunes, and precious liberty for us. They are on the front lines making tough decisions and working their asses off to make this market what it is. Of course I am talking about our vendors. I won’t try to acknowledge them individually because we are blessed with so many extraordinary people who have stepped up to the task and taken it upon themselves to find a way to stock the shelves at Silk Road. They labor tirelessly to balance the heavy responsibilities they’ve taken on. From customer support, to supply chain and inventory management, to promotion, to quality control, to risk management and mitigation, to IT, to Bitcoin finance, to order fulfillment, and on and on, these guys and gals are professionals that are rising to the top of their game.”
What would you say to that?
Roger Ver age 39, born on January 27th, 1979 in San Jose California, currently living in Tokyo Japan. He moved after serving 10-month-time in prison for selling explosives in 2005, and he became a citizen of Saint Kitts and Nevis renouncing his U.S. citizenship in 2014. He is a brown belt in BJJ, a co-founder of Bitcoin Foundation and a faithful investor of the BitInstant until it shut down. He is known as the Bitcoin Jesus owning 425$ Million in Bitcoins. Roger makes the cryptocurrency news very often for being unafraid to speak his mind always making way for cryptos, and we ain’t mad at him!
“If the world’s using bitcoin, governments won’t be able to fund wars through inflation like they do today.” — Roger Ver
Do you agree?
50 Cent age 43, born on July 6th, 1975 in South Jamaica Queens, New York. Fifty put out an album called Animal Ambition in 2014 which was sold in Bitcoin and became one of the first artists to accept bitcoin. Well, guess what? He forgot about that and recently according to THE VERGE he found out about his 8-Million-Fortune in bitcoin raised from the sales of his album four years ago. That’s epic indeed!
“Not Bad for a kid from South Side, I’m so proud of me, I’m a keep it real I forgot I did that shit. Lol.” — 50 Cent
Hilarious! I want to wake up one day and remember my 8 million bitcoin fortune too!
Vitalik Buterin age 24 born on January 31st, 1994 in Kolomna Russia, a Russian-Canadian programmer who co-founded Ethereum and Bitcoin Magazine. He is probably the most known person in the cryptocurrency world. He is the Satoshi Nakamoto of Ethereum! According to Forbs, Vitalik´s Ethereum Net Worth is around 100–200 Million! Vitalik attended the University of Waterloo but dropped out after receiving 100,000 by the Thiel Fellowship. He first learned about cryptos through his dad when he was just 17, and in 2013 at the age of 19 he wrote the Ethereum´s white paper proposal.
He was a victim of a death-hoax back in 2017 at the 4Chain website, which caused Ethereum´s price to fall drastically. Vitalik is not as attached to his project as one may think; he has recently been considering leaving Ethereum and has always been open to see Ethereum thrive without him.
“I remember knowing, for a while, for a long time, that I was kind of abnormal in some sense.” — Vitalik Buterin
You are a selfless genius Mr. Buterin!
Satoshi Nakamoto holds about 980,000 BTC. No one knows who he is, or if this is a group of programmers who wrote the BTC white paper and has made the world a huge favor by introducing a new economic system. He (or they) holds the entire Bitcoin market at the palm of his hands. Will he ever show up?
It´s probably safe to say Satoshi Nakamoto understood what the root of all evil is:
“The root problem with conventional currency is all the trust that’s required to make it work. The central bank must be trusted not to debase the currency, but the history of fiat currencies is full of breaches of that trust. Banks must be trusted to hold our money and transfer it electronically, but they lend it out in waves of credit bubbles with barely a fraction in reserve. We have to trust them with our privacy, trust them not to let identity thieves drain our accounts.” –Bitcoin open source implementation of P2P currency
Erik Finman! If you have been a reader of our blog posts, you know I have mentioned Erik many times, which is the reason I left him out of the five-epic-fellas above. I talk way too much about him in posts. Oh wait… Am I doing it again? Oh Well! He´s got 401 Bitcoins. What can I say? It’s not every day you find a high-school dropout who goes right ahead to work for NASA and becomes a bitcoin millionaire at the age of 18 is it?
“Cryptocurrency represents the largest transfer of wealth our generation has ever seen. Never before have young people been able to change economic classes so quickly. This is bigger than Bitcoin!” — Erik Finman
